Synopsis
This is the Book of Abstracts from the conference Controversies of AI Society organised by the research projects Algorithms, Data & Democracy (ADD) and Strategizing Communication and Artificial Intelligence (SCAI), held in Copenhagen, Denmark, April 9-10 2026.
The event addressed the accelerated implementation of algorithmic technologies, now broadly referred to as artificial intelligence (AI), across all dimensions of society, and the need to consider how technological and societal developments shape each other.
It examined questions such as: What social formations do AI systems invite? How do emerging uses of AI inform developments across public, private, and third sectors? What social changes arise from new technologies, and how are social dynamics embedded within their infrastructures? How do business models, consumption patterns, legal frameworks, political agendas, and material conditions– from venture capital and computing power to data centers – shape technological developments and possible alternatives?
Together with the Proceedings of the conference, this Book of Abstracts gathers contributions presented at this interdisciplinary scholarly event on the controversies of AI society.
