Synopsis
These are the proceedings of the Controversies of AI Society Conference, organised by the research projects Algorithms, Data & Democracy and Strategizing Communication and Artificial Intelligence (SCAI). The conference took place at Copenhagen Business School on 9-10 April 2026.
The event addressed the accelerated implementation of algorithmic technologies, now broadly referred to as artificial intelligence (AI), across all dimensions of society, and the need to consider how technological and societal developments shape each other.
It examined questions such as: What social formations do AI systems invite? How do emerging uses of AI inform developments across public, private, and third sectors? What social changes arise from new technologies, and how are social dynamics embedded within their infrastructures? How do business models, consumption patterns, legal frameworks, political agendas, and material conditions– from venture capital and computing power to data centers – shape technological developments and possible alternatives?
Together with the Book of Abstracts of the conference, these proceedings gather contributions presented at this interdisciplinary scholarly event on the controversies of AI society.
