Abstract

SIMBA is an approach and method for supported and supervised contact between children and young people in out-of-home care and their parents. SIMBA was developed, tested, and evaluated as part of the research and development project SAMVÆR (2022-2027), a partnership between researchers, public authorities, and providers of supported and supervised contact services. The project is supported by the VELUX Foundation's HUMpraxis programme. This practice paper presents the rationale behind SIMBA. First, SIMBA is described as an approach grounded in core professional values. Next, the six methodological focus areas of SIMBA are outlined. Practical examples are provided to illustrate each of these focus areas, together with explanations of why they are assumed to be effective, drawing on both practice experience and research. Finally, the paper describes the research underpinning SIMBA and provides information on where to learn more about the approach. The full evaluation of the SIMBA pilot implementation can be accessed on https://doi.org/10.54337/aau.simba.evaluering
