Synopsis
The 6th Product Lifetimes and the Environment (PLATE) Conference, hosted by Aalborg University in 2025, brings together an interdisciplinary community of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working on product longevity and sustainable development. As product lifetimes gain increasing importance in discussions on the circular economy, resource efficiency, waste reduction, and climate mitigation, the PLATE conference provides a key platform for advancing research and dialogue in this field.
The 2025 edition marks a significant milestone for the community by introducing separate tracks for full research papers and extended abstracts. Both contribution types were subjected to double‑blind peer review and published open access with individual DOIs, reflecting the growing scientific maturity of the field and the need for robust, citable knowledge to inform policy and practice.
This Book of Proceedings showcases contributions from a wide range of disciplines, including design, engineering, business, environmental studies, and the social sciences. Together, the papers offer new insights into how product lifetimes can contribute to more sustainable production and consumption systems within the limits of planetary resources.
Forfatterbiografier
Linda Nhu Laursen is Associate Professor and Head of Research at the AAU Design Lab. Her research focuses on responsible design and innovation. Research projects concerns designed to last, repair, waste, second hand, etc.
Andreas Kornmaaler Hansen is Assistant Professor at the AAU Design Lab Research group. He researches product lifetime extension through repair, use of ‘new waste’ in product manufacturing, and interorganizational collaboration.
